Why do families purchase SUVs over minivans in locations with clean-paved, flat roads?

09 Jun

I’m not asking this facetiously; it’s just something I’ve wondered about. Why do so many families opt for a large SUV over a minivan in areas where the roads are level and clean-paved? I live in north Houston where the roads are clear and level, and I’ve wondered why there are so many super-large SUVs, when something like a Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey would both be considerably cheaper minivan options with plenty of passenger room and storage room too, and both are rated highly by agencies like Consumer Reports. I drive a Sienna and I know for a fact that you can pack it with people and luggage.
If this was a mountainous area of upstate New York, fine, I’d understand the need for 4-wheel drive and a larger engine. But why do so many people opt for large SUVs when the roads are paved, clear and flat, and there are cheaper and better mini-van options?

Is there a way OUT of an Auto Loan When my Car needs $4000 in Repairs?

09 Jun

Ok here’s the scoops: I own a Jetta that until recently ran fine. In the past 2 mos. it’s been in the shop and I’ve paid over $2500 in repairs. Now it’s basically busted again and the engine needs replacing which will cost $4000. I’ve had it checked out at several repair shops which all tell the same story. Also I still have $11,000 balance on my auto loan. Is there a feasible way to get out of my loan. I’m a college student and just can’t pull strings to get another $4000 for more repairs !!!! Other notes:Since I’m in school I probably couldn’t get another auto loan unless I quit school, AGAIN, so I have employment history, paychecks, etc.. Also I don’t want a co-signer OR trade my piece of junk Jetta for another car. Basically I’m looking for way out of my loan. After this experience with my Jetta, riding public transportation has been an oasis !!

Do you know legit online car loan companies who specialize in bad credit?

09 Jun

I need to buy an inexpensive but reliable used car and I have bad credit. I know I want to get a car at a dealership with some sort of warranty on it, because I can’t afford it to break down.

I have heard that the best way to go is to have the lender before going to the dealer and I am not sure how to shop arround for loan companies.

Also, if I finally have a couple of companies in mind, should I apply at more than one of them to look for the best deal? and if I should, how many places can I check out without hurting my credit? in other words, how many are too many?

How to get auto refinancing with not so good credit and while collecting unemployment?

09 Jun

My friend needs to reduce their monthly out go, one of the loans on the plate is the auto loan, unfortunately some of the challenges my friend is facing are;

* recently lost their job –BUT is collecting unemployment from the state of California so essentially has income coming in each month

* currently going through a divorce –unfortunately my friends spouse has damaged EACH of their credit ratings.

so is there any way to refinance? are there lenders out there? CapitalOne Auto Finance is not an option, they do not so auto refi’s and that is whom my friends current loan is through. Should my friend try and trade the car in for a used vehicle?

Your help is appreciated…thanks so much!

Do car dealerships still offer closers?

09 Jun

I have heard that lately car dealerships have relieved themselves from closers, and now the salesmen do the negotiating or whatever. Im looking to get into the business right now, but would rather work with a dealership that offers a closer. Anyone know anything about this?

Refinancing a leased vechile?

09 Jun

When I went to lease a vechile, I could not get the car due to lack of credit history. I had my mom put the vechile lease/loan in her name, and I made the payments on the car. Now that I’m establishing credit in other ways, I was wondering if it would be possible to refinance the lease in my name?

Can a car up for repo be traded in?

09 Jun

I am in Las Vegas, Nevada (so all u car salemen know!) and I haven’t paid for my car in a couple a months. I am sure it is up 4 repo. The company hasn’t contacted me about it yet but I know. I want to trade it in a get another car. I just started working again! Yay! Finally!
How do trade ins work?
How can I save my credit from a repo besides paying it off myself, because I can’t and I don’t want 2 declare bankruptcy?
How bad will a repo affect my credit for future purchases of a car and house? I am looking to pay the repo balance after sale, but if it keeps my credit jacked what is the point? What can I do that saves my credit and gets me into a better car. The car that will be up 4 repo is a 2005 Pt Cruiser ~79,000 miles on it. Will a trade just add more money onto the other car 2 be purchased?

My car loan interest rate is pretty high, and I’m looking to refinance it. My credit score is good but not great (about 640) – any suggestions would be welcome.

Does anyone know how to refinance a car in your name? I need to, but I have no credit…?

09 Jun

About two months ago, my car [that I bought from a private owner-didn't have to be financed] broke down, and so I decided that it was about time to look into a new one. I went down to the car dealership [with my mother] and picked one out. I planned on having her co-sign on it for me but it turned out that together we didn’t make enough to finance it so we called my stepdad and instead of putting it in mine and his name, we put it in his and her name. Worst mistake of my life. They use it as leverage against me [like they'll take the keys if I don't do what they say]. I am now looking to move out of their house and they told me that to do so, I had to refinance the car in my name or I didn’t get to keep it [keep in mind that I AM making the payments, paying the insurance, the gas... everything in that car is there because I personally paid for it]. So I need to know how to go about refinancing the car in my name [with no credit] so that I have transportation to and from work.
I would really love to do that, but we live in an area that doesn’t offer public transportation. [I really did think about doing just that.] i had talked to my sister and she was like “they aren’t gonna let you keep the car” and I was like “then who do they expect to make the payments? because they are BARELY getting by” she was kinda silent for a minute and she was like “I honestly have no idea what they plan on doing”

So, I’m not really sure. Not to mention it is a VERY pretty car =]

[although if need be, I could just get a new one... but I really wanna be able to do it the right way, you know?]

Do car dealers need registration to drive cars they’re selling?

08 Jun

A used car dealer drives one of the cars he is selling on the lot, one which has an expired registration. Is this illegal in New Jersey or is he actually allowed to do that?
To clarify, i mean the registration sticker is expired. He did have the dealer plates but not an up-to-date registration for any state.
